RENE, BILL AND JANET

Synopsis and screening details

RENE, BILL & JANET ( 1.51mins/found photographs/sound/2011)

A photograph and a memory.

This film was made without a camera using found photographs.

The found holiday snaps used to create this moving image sequence piece together moments in the subject’s lives. The photographs come to life through the use of applied sound leaving the viewer to make the connections between the photographs.

Can Rene, Bill and Janet be classified as a film? If a film is a story told through image and sound then it can. In these two minutes the film gives the viewer time to contemplate life and the transitory nature of lived experience. A posed moment, caught for who or whom? For the memory of those in the image? For their family? For strangers? What we see is only what is caught in a moment inside the frame; the pose, the dress, the landscape and we imagine the rest.
